I have several other research projects currently in various stages of completion, including another book edited with Paul Kennedy that is beginning the publication process with Naval Institute Press. Along with my teaching responsibilities, these projects have pushed my research into the twentieth century, and I published an article on the Battle of the Atlantic in the Journal of Military History.

Paul Kennedy and I co-edited Navies in Multipolar Worlds, which was published with Routledge. Eighteenth-Century Naval Officers: A Transnational Perspective was published in 2019 with Palgrave and The Hattendorf Prize Lectures, Volume 1: 2011–2019 came out in 2020 with the Naval War College Press. I have edited several books, beginning with the Festschrift for John Hattendorf, Strategy and the Sea. I also co-authored an article on the Trafalgar Campaign in the Naval War College Review. Since then, I have published an article on the naval defense of Ireland, which won the 2018 Sir Julian Corbett Prize in Modern Naval History, and an article on Napoleon’s return from Elba in the Mariner’s Mirror. That work also spawned articles in The English Historical Review and the Journal for Maritime Research. My doctoral research, subsequently published as A Social History of British Naval Officers, 1775–1815 (Boydell, 2017), looked at the social backgrounds and career trajectories of British naval officers in Nelson’s generation. My newest book is The Horrible Peace: British Veterans at the End of the Napoleonic Wars (UMass, 2023).
